Veles grape - early seedless nutmeg variety

Veles grape - early seedless nutmeg variety

Today, seedless grape varieties are becoming increasingly popular among winegrowers. Despite the fact that these species were known in antiquity, only now they have become widespread. Breeders breed new species every year. One of the last, which was bred relatively recently, is the Velez grape. It is this grape variety that our article will be devoted to.

Description of the variety

The Veles grape variety was bred by crossing the Rusbol and Sofia varieties. It was first obtained in the city of Zaporozhye, in Ukraine from the breeder V.V. Zagorulko. He also gave the first description.

The Velez grape is a hybrid form of seedless grape. The plant is classified as an early ripening variety (about 100 days elapse between the budding process and fruit ripening).

The vine is characterized by a very high growth rate. Its ripening proceeds well along the entire length of the shoot. The maximum eye load per bush is about 35 eyes.

Flowers, in the amount of two to four, are formed on one vegetation shoot. For the Veles variety, hermaphrodite or bisexual flowers are described, which contain both stamens and pistils.

Despite the fact that in such a situation pollination of flowers is sufficient, additional pollination is necessary to improve fertility - it can increase yields by 20%.

The bunch of grapes is very large in size and can reach up to 2 kg in weight. The bunches can be conical or cylindrical. They are very branchy.

Considering the characteristics of the variety, Veles is the most preferred type of grape, which is suitable for growing in the temperate climates of Belarus, Ukraine and Russia.

The berries are arranged in clusters with medium density or friability. They have an oval shape. Their mass varies and is, on average, about 5 g. The peel of the fruit is pink and of medium thickness. When eating, it is not felt. In the world, the fruits acquire amber transparency, which gives an extraordinary aesthetic appearance to the entire bunch. The flesh of the berries is dense with a pronounced nutmeg flavor. Sometimes in the pulp come across rudiments of seeds in the form of soft bones. They are almost invisible during meals.

With high humidity, the berries crack and rot. In dry and sunny weather, without a loss of taste, the bunches dry out or become salty, they can stay on the bush for up to 45 days. The bunches sit very strongly on the bush and you need to make an effort to separate them from the vine.

Growing conditions

Reproduction of grapes occurs with the help of cuttings harvested in the fall or purchased seedlings. After planting, that cuttings, that seedlings take root perfectly.

If you decide to purchase seedlings, you should know that they are sold both grafted and rooted. Veles is one of the unpretentious varieties to care for.

In order to increase yields, accelerate the ripening process, increase the size of the bunch and improve the taste of berries, spring pruning is carried out.

Pruning for fruiting is carried out in six or eight eyes. You can find information that this pruning can be carried out for more.

Since this species is characterized by a fairly high frost resistance (up to -21), it does not need to be covered for the winter. But experienced growers advise that it will not hurt to cover the grape bush for the winter with a film.

High humidity and frequent precipitation during the summer can lead to a decrease in the palatability and transportable qualities of the fruit.

High productivity is characteristic. The plant bears fruit stably every year. Fruit ripening occurs by the beginning of October. At the same time, you can start harvesting the main crop outdoors in early August.

It is inclined to form stepchildren on the same shoots where the bunches are formed. Stepson also bear fruit, but they ripen by mid-autumn.

It is an early ripe variety and has two harvest waves: in August and in autumn.

The plant has high frost resistance and a fairly high resistance to most diseases (downy mildew, mildew, oidium and other fungal diseases). It tolerates both transportation and storage, thanks to its dense and elastic pulp.

Superearly seedless grapes: description

The grape bush has medium vigor. Under normal conditions, the height of the bush does not exceed one and a half meters, but under favorable growing conditions it can reach a greater height. The vine ripens well.

The bush has a gorgeous openwork crown. It can be not only a source of a good harvest, but also an effective decoration of a courtyard.

Ultra early ripening

The unique varieties and hybrid forms of grapes described below manage to ripen on average in less than 100 days from the beginning of bud break. Among them there are fruits of different color and size, but most have good resistance to the main problems of growing grapes. Below you will find a brief description of the varieties with the most important characteristics that will allow you to determine how this or that grape variety is right for you and your conditions.

Light in color

In this category, there are most varieties and hybrid forms, but only the most popular and resistant to diseases will be discussed.

This variety of Pavlovsky's selection, fully justifying its name, despite its relative youth, is one of the most popular early grape varieties. On most sites, he is one of the first to keep up. Combining the large size of berries with their beauty and taste, it is also distinguished by the high marketability of relatively large clusters (400-800 g) and their transportability. Shoots also have time to ripen well. In addition, its resistance to fungal diseases is beyond praise, and frost resistance reaches -24 ° C.

Very easy to care for and stable in fruiting hybrid form from Hungary. Berries with strong nutmeg, pleasant to the taste, not prone to cracking, and the bunches remain on the bushes for a long time. Growth in the vine is rather weak, but does not require pinching and rationing. Ripens well, cuttings root perfectly. The size of the berries may be too small for a table variety, but it ripens one of the first and forgives many care mistakes. The female type of flower may be considered a disadvantage, but pollinates perfectly with any nearby grape growing. It is resistant to diseases and tolerates frosts down to -26 ° C, it is recommended for rather harsh conditions.

Another of the earliest representatives of the grape family. The variety is quite old, therefore, apart from super early ripening, it is not particularly famous for anything. The yield is average and highly dependent on the conditions of detention. The bush is vigorous, the clusters are small, the berries accumulate a little sugar (15-16), but the acidity is minimal (5-6 g / l). Disease resistance is average.

In recent years, one of the most popular grape varieties, thanks to its record early maturity, harmonious taste with a light nutmeg aroma and good yield. The bunches are medium in size and density, berries gain sugar up to 20 Brix. Transportability and safety are good. Disease resistance is average.

It is also a very valuable and popular hybrid grape form. It ripens only a week later than Harold, but is distinguished by its high taste, which the tasters rated at 8.9 points. Berries and clusters are large, have a high presentation and excellent transportability. The bushes are vigorous, the shoots ripen well, the flowers are bisexual. Disease resistance is at a good level, frost resistance - up to -25 ° C.

Tsiravas Agraa

Very interesting and disease resistant ultra early ripening grape variety from Latvia. Not very well-known, but very promising variety for growing in the middle lane. By most indicators, it goes into the middle peasants - in the size of berries, bunches, the strength of the growth of bushes and yield. But the sugar content manages to gain up to 21 Brix, and the vine ripens well. The flowers are bisexual, tolerates frost down to -23 ° C.

Elegant Superearly

Not claiming to have record yields, but a reliable and disease-resistant superearly variety. The taste is simple, but the berries remain on the bushes for a long time. The color of the berries is considered not particularly attractive for the market (white-green), but it can withstand frosts down to -25 ° C.

Some of the most beautiful and attractive in color are pink grape varieties, among which you can also find several representatives of the ultra-early group.

Due to its relative novelty, or for some other reason, this hybrid form is not very popular among winegrowers. Of course, the bushes have significant growth force, and this has to be constantly pruned and rationed. But it ripens at the earliest, after 95 days, the berries and brushes are quite large and very beautiful, without peas. Sugar content is good up to 22%. Shoots ripen early and along their entire length, which is very pleasant. The cuttings root perfectly, and the grapes can withstand frosts down to -24 ° C. Disease resistance is not fully understood, treatments are naturally needed, but due to the early ripening period, the main struggle can be postponed until the moment after harvesting the entire crop. All this proves that Eva is promising for growing in the middle lane.

Super early hybrid form with the original form of berries and bunches, obtained from one of the parents - Rizamata. The bushes have great vigor, the vine ripens along its entire length, the cuttings take root by 90-95%. The berries are not only beautiful, but also very tasty, with a firm crunchy pulp and a good accumulation of sugar. To obtain good yields, normalization is required, it is characterized by a higher average resistance to diseases.
